Day 139: Shoulder Mount Part 1 and Ceviche

Jamie is helping me make a shoulder mount for my wobbly, hand-held DSLR. Here are the supplies that will magically be transformed into a DIY mount.

Sarah and I went to Beachside and I got some ceviche that came on a fish plate. It was dank.

Day 138: Chalk Animation Test #1

I did a test animation for this project I am working on and I am pretty stoked on the result. The production of it took about 20 minutes and was a very basic one shot scene. The camera first tracks right with a moving subject, then tracks with no subject, and then tracks in. It was shot on doubles which means I took 12 pictures for every second and copied each one so there were a total of 24 per second. Check it out...

This is what the chalkboard ended up looking like. I really like the blur effect created by the already drawn lines.

I used a piece of duct tape to keep the distance between the camera and the chalkboard consistent.

And my cohort in crime, Bonnie, helped me steal a chalkboard eraser.

Day 137: Chalkboard

I decided to buy a chalkboard to work on some experimental animation. After doing some researching online,  found a 4 x 3 foot black chalkboard for $32. Since I have Amazon Prime I thought I had free shipping on it. Fuck was I wrong. My email confirmation notified me that shipping was $132 and that they didn't have black so they sent me a green one. I tried to cancel it but it was too late. And even if I return it I'd have to pay shipping for it and would only get $32 back. Sometimes you just get fucked. Looks like I'll be shooting it in black and white.

Day 136: Portraits

I experimented with the "portraits" function on my camera tonight. While I normally don't like using a flash, I thought these came out pretty good. Brooklyn, look over here!

Izzy was faded and didn't really know what was going on.

For those of you who watch Californication, Jules looks like Hank Moody's out-of-town friend in this picture.

Sarah complained to me that Brooklyn has been on the blog more than she has. But when its her time to shine, she got all camera shy.

After a photo shoot of 50+ pictures this was the only one Sarah liked even though all of them were amazing. My beautiful girlfriend.

Day 135: Ball Bounce

Our first assignment in animation was to make a ball enter the left frame, bounce, and exit off the right frame. I decided to make a ball come out of a woman during birth and hit her daughter in the face. This is a basic drawing   I drew before I started on the animation paper. Ill post the video of it when I get it.

Day 134: Preston, The Random Drunk

Isla Vista is a very unique place. Today, as our entire house was doing our weekly house clean, a drunk man carrying only a Four Loko and Beef Jerky stumbled up our stairs and into our house. We all asked each other who this man was but soon came to the conclusion that no one had any idea.

He asked us if he could "hang out" and we told him that he could stay if he helped us clean. After hearing this he immediately walked to the sink and started doing our dishes. Since our house had been broken into, we were all on high alert but this intoxicated man did not seem threatening at all. He even let us eat some of his Jerky. His name was Preston.

We learned a lot about Preston. He was originally from North Carolina and lived locally. Apparently he's 26 and has a kid with "Gina the Nina" who was "fat Double D's". One of the reasons he wanted to help us clean was because "bitches love a clean house" and his roommates were "dirty fuckers". There is also no "Shame in his game". Preston is also the first mate on a para gliding boat and demonstrated his occupation by strapping Gio up with invisible para gliding straps.

Once he was done with the dishes he vacuumed the entire house. I gave him a snap because he was talking about smoking and any man who helps me clean my house deserves one any day of the week.

But as the house got cleaner, Preston's presence became more awkward and we eventually had to kick him out by using the standard "oh we are all leaving" line.

But thank you Preston. We appreciate it.

Day 133: Viral Video

Ryan and I are working on a Rec Sports viral video that could be the best Rec Sports project to date. It is a combination of Kenny Powers and Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job. It stars yours truly and will be posted soon.
