Day 68: Manny. Dolly. Steadicam

In our lighting class today we had four different stations: Manny, Dolly, Inventory (sucked), and Steadicam. Our group started with building the "Manny". The Manny (it got its name from an alumni who made it named Manny) is an outdoor diffusion used for creating shade for production as well as keeping the crew out of the sun.

It can also bounce light to illuminate a scene.

Our next rotation was the dolly. This thing is ancient but still pretty smooth. We were gonna try and do the classic Vertigo shot where you zoom in and Dolly back, but we didn't have enough time.

Our last rotation was the steadicam. This thing can make impossible dolly shots come true. Here's Annie rockin' it with some help from Keith.

Here's an example from Goodfellas.

It was a good day.
